======HOW TO GET AN IP ADDRESS VIA DHCP ON PORTS OTHER THAN 1 ON A X-FAMILY DEVICE?======





**Symptoms:** How to get an IP address via DHCP on ports other than 1 on a X-Family device?

**Causes:** By default port 2,3,4 or 5 are not part of any Security Zone, and are not part of the LAN zone. Out of the Box the LAN zone only has port 1. In order for port 2,3,4 or 5 to get an IP address, they need to be attached to the LAN zone or to a new Security zone for which DHCP services are allowed and configured.   
 


 
**Fixes:** Here follows the steps required to receive an IP address via DHCP on ports 2,3,4 or 5:

  * **1.** Create a new security zone or use the LAN zone.lt;o:p>
  * **2.** Add the Ethernet ports (untagged) you want to use to the desired Security zone (Example port 2).
  * **3.** Make sure that DHCP is enabled and that the selected address-group includes all addresses required. 
  * **4.** If a new Security zone has been created then add the security zone to an internal IP Interface.
  * **5.** Establish a firewall rule in the security zone that permits DHCP (network-protocols service), By default the LAN zone already has this rule created.
