ERROR UPGRADING SOFTWARE

Goals:

Symptoms:

Facts:

Causes: The configuration file in version 1.12 is named as “startup.cfg? The configuration file in version 2.00 is named as “startup1.cfg” and “startup2.cfg? Upon power cycle under version 2.0, the system will try to delete all configuration files that do not follow the standard 2.0 configuration file names. When a switch running version 1.12 is first upgraded to version 2.0, the startup.cfg still exists as the start-up file. So ?startup.cfg? cannot be deleted at this time.

This is when the error message is displayed !!

Fixes: The configuration files used by version 2.0 software are incompatible with those created by version 1.x software. To transfer your configuration when upgrading the Switch, make a note of the configuration and re-enter it after upgrading i.e. your configuration will be lost when upgrading from v1.12 to v2.0.

After running version 2.0 for a while, the system configuration will be auto-saved to ?startup1.cfg?, this file now becomes the designated start-up file for the next reboot. When the next reboot takes place, the system will try to delete the so called “non-standard config files” again. Now ?startup.cfg? is no longer the designated start-up file, so the system will delete it successfully.

This time, no error message will be produced.
