BACK UP AND RESTORE THE CONFIGURATION OF THE NBX 100

The following material clearly describes the procedure to perform and restore the Back Up of the 3Com NBX 100 configuration; to obtain information on other equipment refer to the corresponding document.

This material was designed to be used as a working tool for systems personnel directly related to the operation of the data network.

• IP ADDRESS: Unique identifier of a server, station or work team within a network.
• TCP / IP: Data Transport Protocol / Internet Protocol.
• CONSOLE: Switch configuration window, it is the interface between the network equipment and the administrator user. The console allows you to configure the different characteristics of the network equipment through commands.
• TIMEOUT (timeout): Like many other systems, network equipment needs a certain time to wait for a response or action, if this does not occur, they should be able to exit their waiting cycle and request another task. The timeout is the one that tells the team how long to wait for a response or action before presenting an error message and proceeding to perform another task.
• PROMPT: Console Indicator, the prompt is the place where I can type the console commands to configure the switch.
• SWITCH: High-tech equipment that allows me to obtain better performance thanks to its excellent distribution of the transmission channel.
• PARITY: Corresponds to a control bit that is added to the data frame in order to verify if the information sent by the sender corresponds to the same as received by the receiver, this operation corresponds to an error control by means of a simple formula mathematics.
• TERMINAL: Software to emulate a workstation through remote access.
• Bps: Acronym for Data Bits Per Second.
• GATEWAY: Terminal equipment that allows linking a workstation or several to other networks.
• SOFTWARE: Set of programs, instructions and documents to solve data processing problems.
• LOGIN: Access the equipment through an authorized user.
• PASSWORD: Password of an authorized user.
• DOWNLOAD: Download files.
• REBOOT / RESET: Reboot the computer.

It is important to follow the order of each of the installation standards described in this document in order to ensure the proper and normal operation of the equipment within the parameters of the data network for Ecopetrol.

When the system is backed up, the settings for the greetings and the automatic accountant are also saved. It is recommended to do BackUp after any changes made in the system configuration and just before changing any hardware of the system.

• 1. Click on the Operations icon in the main menu

• 2. Click on Manage Data.

• 3. Click on the BackUp button. The file download window will appear asking what you want to do with the file.

• 4. Select Burn file to disc. Click on the OK button. The Save As window will appear.

• 5. Choose a directory and a file name for the BackUp. Click on Save.

• 6. A dialog box reports that the file download has been completed. Click Close.

The operation of restoring the database should be done only when it is necessary to recover lost data.

• 1. Click on the Operations icon on the main menu.

• 2. Click on Manage Data.

• 3. Use the Browse button to locate the BackUp file that you want to restore (the default file name is tar.out or BuackUp.tar).

• 4. Click on the Restore button. A window will appear to confirm the operation.

• 5. Click Yes. The database restoration process starts. At the end, a window will appear indicating that the system has been restarted.
