FLUSHING ARP TABLE TAKES AN EXCESSIVELY LONG TIME
Symptoms:
- Flushing ARP table takes an excessively long time
- Customer reports clearing ARP table takes an excessively long time
- Telnet session to CB3500 can timeout at client side
Facts:
- CB3500
- CoreBuilder 3500
- CoreBuilder 3500 S/W v1.1
- ARP table
Causes: The CB3500 continues to route and bridge traffic during the flush operation - on a busy network the flush process can take a long time, long enough to cause the telnet session on the client side to timeout - if this happens you will not be able to reconnect to the CB3500 using telnet until the operation in process ( IP ARP Flush) is completed.
Fixes: Normal operation on busy network
Workaround - If there is no issue with traffic not routing or bridging during this operation perform a warm boot instead of a IP ARP Flush - all tables will be cleared and the CB3500 switch should return to normal operation in the shortest amount of time.
Workaround telnet timeout - perform this operation at a console connected to the serial port of the CB3500 instead of a telnet session .
