WHEN INSERTING AND REMOVING MODULES THE COREBUILDER STOPS FORWARDING TRAFFIC

Symptoms:

  • CB3500 CB2500 When inserting and removing modules the CoreBuilder stops forwarding traffic

Facts:

  • CoreBuilder 2500 chassis, all types
  • CoreBuilder 2500
  • CB2500
  • LanPlex 2500
  • Modules
  • 3C35100
  • CB3500 STR KIT, 1 PS, FAN TRAY &1 MOD
  • CoreBuilder 3500
  • 3C35100, CB3500 Chassis
  • CB3500 Modules
  • Hot swap

Causes:

  • Remove module(s) while up and running
  • Insert module(s) while up and running

Fixes: When removing or inserting a module on a CB2500 or CB3500 it causes a soft reboot. No traffic will be passed thru the Corebuilder during this time. First thing noticed is the error LEDS on the modules will go on (orange or red). Below was observed from the serial port on the system console.

Comments are preceded with a /*

Select access level (read, write, administer): /* module was removed.

During this time no traffic will be passed thru the CoreBuilder CoreBuilder 3500 SysBoot Version 3.0

Press Enter to stop auto-boot Booting from flash /* when completed with the reboot this prompt will be displayed.

Select access level (read, write, administer): /* The CoreBuilder is up and running and traffic will be passing thru normally.

Hot swap in the CB2500 and CB3500 means the boards can be safely inserted or removed with the power on.
