INSTALLATION RELEASE 3.3.1 FOR ACCESS POINTS

Before doing any procedure, the following items should be verified:

  • Type of Access Point (7250, 8250, 8750 or 8850).
  • Current version of the Access Point.
  • Use only wired connection to the Access Point.
  • Make sure that the Access Point is in Factory Default.

Requirements:

  • Upgrade Kit 3.2.
  • Disable all Firewalls between the AP and the PC where the upgrade will take place.
  • TFTP server

Procedure

If the AP has a Release less than or equal to 2.7.

1. Connect the AP directly to the PC that has the Software Releases.

2. Make sure that the AP and the PC are in the same network segment. To do this, it is verified through the WIDMAN which IP address the AP has:

  • The only AP that should be observed is selected in the WIDMAN with right click we select “Properties”. This step will give us the IP address of the AP. If they are in different logical segments, the address of either the AP or the PC is changed.

3. Now the “3Com Enterprise AP Upgrade Kit” must be executed and in its fields enter the IP address of the Access Point, the Username which is admin and the Password would be blank.

  • By default this program performs the Upgrade to the AP 8×50 family. If your AP is a 7250, the check box called “Check here if your device is 3CRWE725075A” must be checked.

4. Click Upgrade. Then a “Command” is displayed where the correct operation of the Upgrade process can be verified.

  • During this process it is important that the Network connection and the Power supply are not interrupted. This could cause irreparable damage to the AP.

5. Once the Upgrade process is finished, the software will display a message of completed action, at which the option “Exit” will be selected.

6. Now the version of Release that was installed must be verified on the AP. For this we must enter the configuration of the AP and in Advanced Settings select “Administration”.

7. At this moment the AP Version must be 3.2.0. Now a TFTP server must be running, in this case “3CSERVER” is running.

  • The following path is selected: File - Config.

  • Now in the “TFTP Configuration” tab, select the location where the image to be installed is.

  • It is important to clarify that for the 8×50 family the image is called “3com-img_R.bin” yand for the AP 7250 is this “3com-img_rl.bin”.

8. Now in the “Administration” page of the AP, in the file name fields, write the name of the Release, in the IP Address field, enter the address where the TFTP server is located, in the Username field write “admin” and finally in the Password field do not type anything.

9. Clic on Upgrade.

  • During this process it is important that the Network connection and the Power supply are not interrupted. This could cause irreparable damage to the AP.

10. Once the installation of the Release is finished, the “Reboot” option will appear in the Window, you must click here.

11. At this time the AP already has the new image version.

Note: If the AP that you want to update has a software version greater than or equal to 3.1.0. Steps 6-11 should be followed only.
