factory reset a SonicWall device using the CLI



The factory default username and password for a SonicWall device is “admin” and “password”. The default IP address is 192.168.168.168.

To factory reset a SonicWall 370 using the console, you can:

  1. Log in to the switch console
  2. config term
  3. Enter the command “restore-defaults
  4. Select “Y” to confirm

You can also factory reset a SonicWall 370 using the GUI:

  1. Navigate to Device > Settings > Firmware & Settings
  2. Click Create Backup and select Local Back up
  3. Click the drop-down arrow for the boot option for the current firmware
  4. Click Boot current firmware with Factory Default Configuration


To factory reset a SonicWall device using the CLI, you can use the reinitializetofactorysettings command. You can also perform a factory reset by entering a series of commands to boot the device with default settings.

Steps to perform a factory reset using the CLI:

  • Log in to the device's CLI
  • Enter the reinitializetofactorysettings command
  • The device will reboot and return to factory default settings

Steps to perform a factory reset using a series of commands:

  1. Select the highlighted entry, which is usually “SonicCore X”
  2. Select r to enter recovery mode
  3. Enter 0 to enable maintenance mode
  4. Enter the maintenance key
  5. Select 5 to boot the device with default settings
  6. The device will reboot and return to factory default settings

You can also perform a factory reset using the device's GUI.
