CONVERT TO AN NBX 100

Symptoms:

  • Convert from a SuperStack 3 NBX to an NBX 100
  • Migrating from an SS 3 NBX to an NBX 100
  • Replace an SS 3 NBX with an NBX 100
  • SuperStack 3 NBX not operating as expected
  • various issues

Facts:

  • SuperStack 3 NBX
  • NBX 100
  • 3C10110
  • NBX CALL PROCESSOR
  • Upgrade

Causes:

  • SS 3 NBX did not resolve issues as expected
  • Need to return to using NBX 100

Fixes: The replacement process includes making sure that the configuration is compatible between the two systems, backing up the data on both systems, capturing the CLI output for later comparison checking if necessary, operating the systems on the same version during the upgrade process, restoring* the database, and follow-up testing.

Since the restore operation onto the NBX 100 is not supported*, to ensure a higher chance of success in replacing a SuperStack 3 NBX with an NBX 100 without having to rebuild from scratch:

1. Make certain on the SS 3 NBX that all licenses including the number of installed devices do not exceed what is already installed (permitted) on the NBX 100. If some count exceeds what is permitted/licensed on the NBX 100, then the restore onto the NBX 100 has less chance of success.

2. Perform a back-up of the office data on the SS 3 NBX, and also on the NBX 100 if there is any configuration data (do not confuse the two files)

3. From the CLI on the NBX 100, capture the output from all additional operations

4. Make sure that the NBX 100 is operating on the same version as the SS 3 NBX (upgrade/downgrade the NBX 100 as necessary)

5. For confirmation, restart the NBX 100 if you did not have to already above.

6. On the NBX 100, Restore using the back-up file from the SS 3 NBX

7. Review the CLI information for the new reboot. Compare any suspect data with the earlier reboot. Investigate any significant differences between the two reboots (excepting numbers of devices).

8. Review the most recent entries in the Admin Log. There should be a statement that the File System Check was successful.

9. Test as many system operations and features as you can to determine if the process was (at least mostly) successful.

10. Monitor the operation of the NBX 100 to keep track of any unusual or unexpected behavior.

After the restore, if the operation of the NBX 100 is not satisfactory even after troubleshooting any suspect behaviors, be prepared to purge the system and rebuild it from scratch.
