Causes:

Fixes: To reboot NBX using console commands:

Note: To perform a normal reboot (without using console command), press Ctrl-R

1. Hook console to NBX re-boot

2. Look for the following statement on bootup and follow Notes: When you see statement “Press any key to stop auto-booting” (Note: Press key here to get to VxWorks), continue pressing the Enter key until VxWorks opens

3. Type “c” and then press Enter at the VxWorks prompt Note: The “c” (for the “Change” command after stopping the reboot) must be lower case

4. Continue to press the Enter key until you get to the filename indicated below: boot device : ata=0,0 unit number : 0 processor number : 0 host name : host filename : /dos0/R2_0_1/vxWorks Note: Re-type command on this line, but change the version number. (Notice the capital letters for R and W)

5. Press the Enter key until VxWorks appears

6. Type @ and then press Enter at the VxWorks prompt. The NBX reboots

7. After rebooting, open NetSet and login as administrator

8. Open Operation> Reboot/Shutdown

9. Select the code you want to reboot to

10. Reboot again. Everything should work correctly

You can use the following process as a workaround. Note that you may lose some voice messages and system configurations

To perform the workaround you require the following:

  • A. There must be another known version of NBX Operating System on the hard drive
  • B. You must know the (old) password from the previous (known) version (may be the default)
  • C. You must have access to a new version update file (for example, R2_0_1.taz) either from the Resource Pack CD or on the PC's hard drive

To perform the workaround:

1. Access the serial administration port (CLI) on the NCP (click on link to view)

2. Press Enter

3. At the nbx100 prompt, press Ctrl-r (to reboot the system). Cycle the power only if the system will not reboot, or is dead

4. At the prompt “Press any key to stop auto-boot . . .” (shortly after the HDD tests) press any key (to stop the reboot process). The following prompt appears: [VxWorks Boot]:

5. Type “c”

6. Press Enter

7. Press Enter again at the end of each response until you see the response file name: /dos0/R2_0_1/vxWorks (or something similar). The current software version is found between the second and third slash (/). The cursor should be at the end of the line, just after a space. (Do not press Enter, do not press Space)

8. Type /dos0/xxxxxx/vxWorks (where xxxxxx is another version on the system),

9. Press Enter. (The entry is case sensitive, and must be typed precisely. If you make a mistake, and notice it after pressing the Enter key, complete step 9, and then return to step 5. You may correct any mistake before pressing the Enter key by using the Backspace key

10. Press Enter after each of the next responses until you see the response: [VxWorks Boot]:

11. Type @

12. Press Enter. This saves the change and reboots the system. If the system does not completely restart, go to step 2, and at step 8, be sure to retype the command precisely. If the system does not respond to step 2, disconnect the system power for one minute, and restart the procedure from step 3

13. After the system reboots, log in to NetSet with the (old) password for the version just requested

14. In NetSet go to Operations> Software Upgrade

15. Using the lower drop-down menu, select the version to which you want to return

16. Click Remove

17. Go to Reboot/Shutdown, and reboot on the CURRENT version (this assures that NetSet knows that it is supposed to be on this version, and is a required step)
