CHANGE THE PHONE OF AN EXISTING USER

1. OBJECT

The following material clearly describes the procedure to replace the phone to an existing user on the 3Com NBX 100; to obtain information on other equipment refer to the corresponding document.

2. REACH

This material was designed to be used as a working tool for systems personnel directly related to the operation of the data network.

3. GLOSSARY OF TERMS

IP ADDRESS: Unique identifier of a server, station or work team within a network.

TCP/IP: Protocolo de transporte de datos/Protocolo de Internet.

CONSOLE: Switch configuration window, it is the interface between the network equipment and the administrator user. The console allows you to configure the different characteristics of the network equipment through commands.

TIMEOUT (timeout): Like many other systems, network equipment needs some time to wait for a response or action, if this does not occur, they should be able to exit their waiting cycle and request another task. The timeout is the one that tells the team how long to wait for a response or action before presenting an error message and proceeding to perform another task.

PROMPT: Console Indicator, the prompt is the place where I can type the console commands to configure the switch.

SWITCH: High-tech equipment that allows me to obtain better performance thanks to its excellent distribution of the transmission channel.

PARITY: Corresponds to a control Bit that is added to the data frame in order to verify if the information sent by the sender corresponds to the same as received by the receiver, this operation corresponds to an error control by means of a simple formula mathematics.

TERMINAL: Software to emulate a workstation through remote access.

Bps: Acronym for Data Bits Per Second.

GATEWAY: Terminal equipment that allows linking a workstation or several to other networks.

SOFTWARE: Set of programs, instructions and documents to solve data processing problems.

LOGIN: Access the equipment through an authorized user.

PASSWORD: Password of an authorized user.

DOWNLOAD: Download files.

REBOOT / RESET: Reboot the computer.

It is important to follow the order of each of the installation standards described in this document in order to ensure the proper and normal operation of the equipment within the parameters of the data network.

6. CHANGE THE TELEPHONE OF AN EXISTING USER

6.1 Discover the new phone.

  • 1. Click on the Sysytem Configuration icon on the main menu.

2. Click on System Wide.

3. Enable Auto Discover Telephones and click Apply and OK.

4. Connect the new phone to the network to be self-discovered by the NBX. After the phone completes the initialization process, the date and time appear on the display, as well as the extension assigned to the phone.

5. After the auto discover process has finished disable the Auto Discover Telephones option and click OK.

6.2 Modify the phone associated with the user:

In the main menu click on the User Configuration icon.

1. Select the user for whom you want to change the phone and click on Modify.

2. In the Telephone List field choose the MAC address of the new telephone and click OK.

1. In the User Configuration / Users window select the New User corresponding to the phone that was auto discovered and click Remove. This user does not have an associated phone now, therefore the associated phone will appear as none.

2. Click YES when asked if you want to delete the user.

1. To remove the phone you want to replace go to the main menu and click on Device Configuration.

3. In the Device Configuration / Telephones window, select the telephone to be replaced and click Remove. At this time, the phone to be replaced does not have an extension, instead it has 4 asterisks.

4. Click YES when asked if you want to delete the phone
