HOW TO INSTALL THE PRINT SERVER:

The Print Server 3CRWPS10072 is shipped with no default IP address. You are required to run a Discovery Utility that is shipped on the CD in order to configure the Print Server with an IP address and in addition select whether you would like the Print Server to work in Ad Hoc Mode i.e. NIC to Server or in Access Point mode i.e. part of the infrastructure LAN

If you have a DHCP server on your LAN, the Print Server can obtain an IP address from the DHCP Server. However, it is advised that you discover it and assign a fixed IP address.

Before you run the Discovery program:

You must have your USB printer connected to the Print Server or your Discovery will fail to find the Print server. To do this, connect your Printer via the LAN (Ethernet port) to the Print Server. Make sure you disable the Firewall functionality on Microsoft Windows XP Firewall. For other Firewalls make sure you allow incoming activities whilst scanning for the printer.

Running the “Setup Wizard”

Once you have discovered your Print Server you are then required to run the Set up Wizard as follows:

  • Upon running the Setup Wizard, you will firstly see the “Protocol Detection” window as shown in the Figure 1 below.
  • Clicking on “Next” Figure 1, will take you to the “Print Server” selection page as shown in Figure 2.
  • Here you will find “3CC0445351” as the Server Name, this is default. If no Server Name is detected, make sure that a Printer is connected to the Print Server, ensure that the Print Server is powered up. Click on refresh from the above figure to discover the connected Printer.

  • Here you define your IP configuration to allow your LAN or WLAN to talk to the Print Server.
  • A Default Gateway is used for users who want to use the Print Server in a routed LAN environment or with Super Natting.
  • Clicking on Next from Figure 4 will then take you to Figure 5 where you configure the Network Type settings

  • Choose your “Region or Domain” setting this will allow the Print Server to know which channels it will use when looking for the SSID; For best performance, your remote Wi-Fi, should also be set to the same country settings be it in Ad HOC mode or Infrastructure.
  • Channel number is set to “Auto” i.e. the Print Server will automatically look for the SSID on any of the available channels.
  • Encryption is also available. This allows the Print Server to talk to a Secured WLAN via WEP or WPA-PSK only.

Note: Only WPA-PSK mode is supported, WPA Radius mode (TKIP) is not supported. For a successful connection it is initially recommended to disable security.

  • Clicking on Next from Figure 5 then takes you to the Finish Page as shown in Figure 6.

fig.6

Note in Figure 6 you are advised on how to connect your computers for printing via the Print Server.

PS: If you will be using the Print Server in Wi-Fi Infrastructure mode, make sure you disconnect the Ethernet connection from the Print Server and restart the Print Server at this point.
